Yelp advertising is worth it for contractors when it books jobs you can count in your invoices, not when it just sends clicks. In September 2026, Yelp leads became 6 invoiced jobs worth $9,745 for Kinetic Electric in Rancho Cucamonga. Yelp's plan starts "From $150/ month" and self-serve ads can be canceled anytime.
I'm Daniel Gonzalez, founder of DG Agency. We run Yelp for some contractor clients and tell others to skip it. This post covers the three things owners ask about Yelp ads: is it worth it, what it costs, and how to cancel. Yelp's rules are quoted from Yelp's own pages with links. Client numbers are from our reports.

Is Yelp advertising worth it for contractors?
It depends on your trade and your town, so judge it on invoices. Here's one real month. For Kinetic Electric, a residential and commercial electrical contractor in Rancho Cucamonga, California, we matched every Yelp lead to a job in their own CRM by phone number.
| Kinetic Electric, September 2026 | Jobs | Invoiced | Collected |
|---|---|---|---|
| From Yelp leads | 6 | $9,745 | $8,945 |
| From Google LSA leads | 2 | $23,520 | $23,520 |
| Total | 8 | $33,265 | $32,465 |
Yelp also had $24,969 in open quotes at month end. Most of the dollars that month came from one $23,000 commercial job off a single LSA call, so Yelp wasn't the biggest channel. It was the steadiest one, with six smaller jobs. Full detail is in the Kinetic Electric case study.
What I'd check before deciding Yelp is or isn't worth it:
- Do your competitors show up on Yelp in your town? Search your main service the way a homeowner would.
- Can you answer Yelp messages fast? Request a Quote leads go cold quickly. Kinetic is now testing two reply styles, one that quotes a price range up front and one that pushes for an in-person estimate, scored on close rate and collected revenue.
- Can you tie each Yelp lead to an invoice? If not, you're guessing.
If Yelp can't show you booked jobs after about 90 days, I'd cancel it. That's my rule of thumb, not Yelp's.
How much does Yelp advertising cost?
Yelp sets a floor and you set the rest. Yelp's local business pricing page lists the Yelp Ads plan "From $150/ month" and adds "Minimum budgets subject to change." Its Yelp Ads page says "Spend as little as $5 per day on average" and "You can strategically adjust your budget to any maximum amount, when you want and as often as you want."
Yelp's help center calls these "Cost-per-click advertising programs", so you're paying for clicks on your ad, not for booked jobs. That's why I judge Yelp on cost per booked job:
Cost per booked job = Yelp spend for the month ÷ jobs booked from Yelp leads
Page upgrades are separate paid products from ads. Yelp's help center says "Some business owners choose to cancel advertising, but continue subscribing to paid page upgrades." Check your billing page for everything you're paying for.
Does Yelp require a contract?
Not for self-serve ads. Yelp's Yelp Ads page says "There are no term contracts with self-serve advertisers" and "You are free to cancel at any time." If a Yelp rep signed you up on a term contract, the rules are different. Yelp's help center says "If you are currently in a contract and need to cancel your Ads program", call the Customer Success team at (855) 380-9357.
How do I cancel Yelp advertising?
Do it from the billing page. These steps are from Yelp's help article, How to cancel your Yelp Ads and other paid products:
- "Visit the Billing Page of Yelp for Business from the desktop site" (in the app, it's under More, then Billing).
- "Under Your Products, click or tap Manage".
- "Click or tap the Pause or Cancel icon next to each paid product you wish to cancel", then follow the prompts.
- Repeat for every product. Yelp says "You will need to repeat these steps for each product you wish to cancel".
What happens next, in Yelp's words: "Cost-per-click advertising programs will end immediately upon cancellation" and "Your final bill will be delivered on the first of the following month." Your listing stays up. "Canceling Yelp Ads doesn't remove your business from Yelp."
If you only want a break, Yelp's cancel help page says you can pick "I plan to restart Yelp Ads in the future" as your reason, which "will allow you to select a date to have your Yelp Ads resume."
Two things I'd do when you cancel. Screenshot the billing page showing each product canceled. Then check next month's bill against it.
What to do with Yelp if you keep it
Keep your free Yelp page in good shape whether you advertise or not. Real job photos, correct hours, every service you do, and a reply to every review. Then:
- Answer Request a Quote messages within minutes during business hours.
- Track every Yelp lead by phone number into your CRM.
- Review spend against booked jobs every month, not clicks.
We cover how we run it on our Yelp advertising management page. For how Yelp stacks up against Google, see Google LSA vs Angi vs Thumbtack vs HomeAdvisor, since Local Services Ads is usually where I'd put the first dollar.
Where DG fits
DG Agency runs Yelp, Google Local Services Ads, Google Business Profile and reviews for home service contractors doing $1M or more. Retainers start at $5,000 a month, month to month, and Yelp ad spend is paid straight to Yelp. See the electrical marketing agency page for how we run it for electricians like Kinetic, or what a contractor marketing agency costs.
