SEO for Plumbers

Plumbing SEO Services That Get the Phone Ringing

Plumbing SEO is the work that puts your company in the Google Maps top 3, the organic results and the AI answers when someone nearby searches for a plumber, drain cleaning or a water heater. It is five jobs done together. The Google Business Profile, one page per money service, real city pages, reviews with replies and a website Google can crawl. Legacy Plumbing Group went from the Maps top 3 on 20% of its tracked area to 39% in three months.

What SEO for Plumbing Companies Covers

Most plumbing calls from Google don't come from a blog post. They come from the map pack, the three businesses Google shows under the map when someone types plumber near me or drain cleaning plus a town. So plumbing SEO starts with the Google Business Profile and works outward to the website.

Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is whether your profile and site clearly say you do the job someone searched. Distance is how far you are from them. Prominence is what Google knows about you from across the web, including reviews and links. You can't move your shop, so the work goes into the other two.

For a plumbing company, that turns into six pieces of work.

  • The Google Business Profile. The right primary category, a services list that matches the work you do, a description written around your real jobs, photos from real jobs and regular posts.
  • Service pages. One page for each job you want more of, like drain cleaning, sewer line repair, water heaters, repipes and leak detection.
  • City pages. A page for each main town you serve, with something on it that only applies to that town.
  • Reviews. Asked for on every job and replied to, every one.
  • AI search. The same listings, reviews and pages, written so Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT can quote them.
  • The technical basics. A fast site, schema markup and pages Google actually indexes.

Google Maps First: What We Did for Legacy Plumbing

Legacy Plumbing Group is a plumber in Oak Harbor, Washington, serving Whidbey Island and Anacortes. We started on June 23, 2026. The next day we ran our first map grid scan, a 13 by 13 grid of points around Oak Harbor, checking 7 plumbing searches at each point. Legacy showed in the Google Maps top 3 on 20% of that area.

In the first weeks we rewrote the profile's service list so each service matched work they really do, removed a duplicate set of services and added missing high-value jobs like water and sewer line excavation. We replied to every new review. By the August 24 scan the average was 38%. By September 23 it was 39%. Sewer line repair went from 25% of the grid to 52%, and plumbing repair from 4% to 40%.

We can't split out exactly which change moved which point on the map, and we don't pretend to. What we can show is the same scan, on the same grid, every month.

Reviews went from 73 on June 24 to 93 at 4.95 stars on October 19, 2026, with 91 replied to. Legacy's office asks for them. We reply. Google's review policy bans asking only happy customers and offering anything in exchange for a review. We never set up review gating for anyone. The ask goes to every finished job, and every review gets a reply.

Service Pages That Use the Words Homeowners Type

Biz-E-Bee Plumbing & Rooter is a new plumbing and rooter company serving Riverside and San Bernardino counties. We built its website from scratch in July 2026, with service pages, city pages and FAQ, service and breadcrumb schema across all 17 pages.

On August 12 we checked the 30 highest-volume keywords from the keyword sheet against the copy on the live site. Only 18 appeared anywhere. The tankless water heater page had 1,202 words and none of the four phrases that carried its search volume. We rewrote the copy until 29 of the 30 were on the site, covering 21,650 of the 21,790 monthly searches those keywords carry.

That check now runs on every plumbing site we touch. A page about a topic is not the same as a page that uses the words people search. We report it as a number, how many of your top 30 keywords are on the site before and after, so you can watch the gap close.

City Pages Without the Copy and Paste

Every plumber has seen the 40-city website where each page swaps the town name and nothing else. Google's spam policies name pages targeted at specific cities that funnel visitors to one page as an example of doorway abuse. Those pages tend to get ignored or dropped from the index.

We build fewer and make each one earn its place. Biz-E-Bee's city pages came from primary-source research, and we corrected neighborhood names we couldn't verify before they went live. A good plumbing city page has the jobs you do in that town, the problems homes there tend to have, local code notes and photos from real jobs nearby.

The opposite gap is common too. When we reviewed Legacy's site in September 2026 it had 12 pages, 4 for cities and none for a single service. That leaves the Google profile doing all the work for searches like water heater repair. A page for each money service is the next step there.

How Long Plumbing SEO Takes

On the map, often faster than plumbers expect when the profile was neglected. Legacy's grid average went from 20% on June 24 to 38% by August 24, two months in, and held at 39% on September 23. Most of the gain came in the first two months.

A brand-new company starts further back. Biz-E-Bee's website went up in July 2026 and its own new Google Business Profile was approved on October 2. In the first 15 days of the profile and search work, it landed a $35,000 commercial sewer job in its local area. One job is not a trend, and we don't sell it as one. It does show a new plumber can get found before it has years of history.

A new profile also starts with zero reviews, and most Local Services Ads categories need 5 Google reviews before ads serve. Competitive website rankings, like emergency plumber in a big metro, take longer than the map, often six months or more. Every client gets the same 90-day promise either way.

What Plumbing SEO Costs

Published contractor marketing prices we checked in October 2026 ran from $249 a month for a website and SEO bundle to $11,000 or more for a full program. Most full-service retainers sat between about $2,600 and $7,750 a month. The full table is in our contractor marketing agency cost guide.

Under a few hundred dollars a month you are usually buying templated pages and a rankings report. What separates the prices is hours. Who rewrites your services list, checks your keyword coverage, replies to your reviews and reads your calls every week.

How We Measure Plumbing SEO

A rankings report is easy to pad and hard to read. We report the things a plumber can check against his own phone.

  • Map grid scans. The share of your service area where you show in the Google Maps top 3, for each search, scanned on the same grid every month. Legacy's went 20%, 38%, 39%.
  • Keyword coverage. How many of your top 30 keywords by volume appear on your site. Biz-E-Bee's went from 18 to 29.
  • Calls. Tracking numbers on the website and Google Business Profile call reporting, matched to jobs in your CRM where you'll let us. Legacy runs Housecall Pro, so the ask there is a lead source and final job amount on every job.
  • AI answers. Whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI name you for the searches we track.

The setup is covered in call tracking and CRM integrations.

Red Flags When Hiring a Plumbing SEO Company

Most of these show up in the first sales call if you know to listen for them.

  • A promised ranking or a promised number of leads. Nobody controls Google. We don't guarantee rankings either. We guarantee your retainer back if there is no measurable result in 90 days.
  • The agency owns the profile, the domain or the tracking numbers. All of it should be in your name. Ours always is.
  • A monthly report that is all impressions and keyword positions, with no calls and no map grid.
  • Forty city pages with the town name swapped.
  • Review gating, where only happy customers get the review link. It breaks Google's policy.
  • Blog volume sold as the main deliverable. One strong page per money service does more for a plumber than four generic posts a month.
  • Nobody asks which jobs you want more of. If the plan doesn't start with your best jobs, it's a template.

Plumbing SEO FAQ

What is plumbing SEO?

+

Plumbing SEO is the work that gets a plumbing company found on Google Maps, in the organic results and in AI answers for the jobs it wants, in the towns it serves. It covers the Google Business Profile, one page per money service, real city pages, reviews with replies and a website Google can crawl and index.

How much does SEO for plumbers cost?

+

Published contractor marketing prices we checked in October 2026 ran from $249 a month to $11,000 or more, with most full-service retainers between about $2,600 and $7,750. DG Agency starts at $5,000 a month for plumbing companies doing $1M or more, covering SEO, the Google Business Profile, Local Services Ads, citations, reviews and Yelp. 90-day minimum, then month to month.

How long does plumbing SEO take to work?

+

The map can move inside a few months when the profile was neglected. Legacy Plumbing Group went from the Maps top 3 on 20% of its tracked area to 38% in two months and 39% in three. Competitive website rankings take longer, often six months or more in a big metro.

Is Google Maps or the website more important for a plumber?

+

For most plumbing calls the map pack matters more, because that is where people looking for a plumber right now tap to call. The website still matters. Google reads it to decide what you do, and homeowners check it before they book. Plumbing SEO works on both at the same time.

Do city pages still work for plumbers?

+

They work when each page says something true about that town, like the jobs you do there and local code notes. Google's spam policies treat near-identical city pages that funnel visitors to one place as doorway pages. Build fewer, real pages instead of 40 copies.

Do plumbers need special SEO for Google's AI Overviews?

+

Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. ChatGPT and Gemini are separate, so we track whether they name you as its own line in the monthly report.

Can an SEO company guarantee my plumbing company ranks number one?

+

No, and be careful with anyone who does. Nobody controls Google's rankings. DG Agency guarantees something you can check instead. If there is no measurable result in 90 days, you get your retainer back.

What should a plumbing SEO company report every month?

+

Map grid coverage for your main searches, how many of your top keywords appear on your site, calls from the website and Google profile, and whether AI assistants name you. Rankings and traffic are early signs. Calls and booked jobs are the result.
