SEO for HVAC Contractors

HVAC Contractor SEO: Google Maps, Service Pages, Reviews and AI Search

HVAC SEO is the work that gets a heating and air company found on Google Maps, in the organic results and in AI answers when someone searches for AC repair, furnace repair or a new system in the towns it serves. It covers the Google Business Profile, one page per service, real city pages, reviews and a website Google can index. We have done HVAC work in the past but don't have a current HVAC client, so the numbers here come from our plumbing and roofing accounts, which run on the same Google Maps mechanics.

None of these accounts is an HVAC company. We show them because the map pack, keyword coverage and indexing work the same way for a heating and air company, and we would rather show real numbers from another trade than invent HVAC ones.

What HVAC SEO Covers

HVAC has more kinds of calls than most trades. A dead AC in July is a call-now search. A system replacement gets researched for days. Maintenance plans and indoor air quality are planned work. Each one searches differently, and an HVAC site that lumps them onto one services page answers none of them well.

Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is whether your profile and site clearly say you do the job someone searched. Distance is how far you are from them. Prominence is what Google knows about you from across the web, including reviews and links. You can't move your shop, so the work goes into the other two.

  • The Google Business Profile. The right primary category, a services list for repair, replacement, maintenance and each system you install, real job photos and posts.
  • Service pages. One page each for AC repair, furnace repair, heat pumps, system replacement, ductwork, maintenance plans and anything else you want more of.
  • City pages. A page for each main town, with something on it only that town has.
  • Reviews. Asked for on every job, every one replied to.
  • AI search. Pages and listings written so Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT can quote them.
  • The technical basics. A fast site, schema and pages Google actually indexes.

Why This HVAC Page Shows Plumbing Numbers

Plenty of HVAC SEO pages are full of case studies you can't check. We'd rather tell you what we have. Our current clients are roofers, plumbers, electricians, a flooring installer and a solar installer. Our HVAC work is in the past, and we don't publish numbers from it.

Plumbing is the closest match. Both are urgent home-service trades where the call goes to whoever shows up on the map and answers. Legacy Plumbing Group in Oak Harbor, Washington showed in the Google Maps top 3 on 20% of its tracked area when we started in June 2026. It was 38% by August 24 and 39% by September 23, on a 13 by 13 grid across 7 searches. Sewer line repair went from 25% to 52%.

That is the same work an HVAC profile needs. A service list that matches real jobs, reviews replied to every time and a grid scan every month to see what moved. Full details are in the Legacy Plumbing Group case study and on our plumbing SEO page.

A Page for Every HVAC Job, Written Before the Season

We check every service page against the keyword list line by line. For Biz-E-Bee Plumbing & Rooter, only 18 of the top 30 keywords by volume appeared anywhere on the site. The tankless water heater page had 1,202 words and none of the four phrases carrying its volume. After the rewrite, 29 of 30 were on the site, covering 21,650 of the 21,790 monthly searches. HVAC sites miss the same way, with an AC repair page that never says AC repair the way people type it.

Timing matters more in HVAC than in most trades. AC pages need to be indexed and settled before the first heat wave, and furnace pages before the first cold snap. A page published the week demand spikes has missed most of that season.

Replacement pages do the heavy lifting on the bigger tickets. They should cover the systems you install, what affects the price, financing if you offer it, and real installs in the area.

Service Areas and City Pages

Many HVAC companies run as service-area businesses, where the Google profile hides the street address and lists the areas you serve. Google allows up to 20 service areas and says the whole area shouldn't reach farther than about 2 hours of driving from where you're based. Your service area is where you're allowed to show. It is not a promise you'll rank there.

City pages cover the towns the map doesn't reach. Google's spam policies name pages targeted at specific cities that funnel visitors to one page as an example of doorway abuse. A useful HVAC city page has the jobs you've done there, what the homes there tend to run, local permit notes and photos of real installs nearby.

Reviews for Heating and Air Companies

Reviews feed prominence, one of the three things Google says it ranks local results on, and they are what a homeowner reads before letting a tech into the house. Google's review policy bans asking only happy customers and offering anything in exchange for a review. We never set up review gating for anyone. The ask goes to every finished job, and every review gets a reply.

The easiest ask is on site, before the tech leaves, when the house is cool again. Reviews that mention the job, a new heat pump or a same-day AC repair, help the profile show for those searches too.

Licenses on the Site and the Profile

In California, HVAC work falls under the CSLB C-20 Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning Contractor classification. We pull the record before the license number goes on the site, the profile or the schema, and the business name has to match everywhere. If you also run Local Services Ads, Google's US requirements page puts HVAC through an extra level of screening that it says takes 3 to 4 weeks on average, so the name and license should match before you apply.

How Long HVAC SEO Takes

From our plumbing and roofing accounts, the map can move inside two to three months when the profile was neglected. Legacy Plumbing went from 20% to 38% map coverage in two months. A site with an indexing problem can jump fast once it's fixed. TMC Roofing's clicks went from 172 to 594 in the window covering its rebuild.

Competitive website rankings for searches like AC repair in a big metro take longer, often six months or more. Plan HVAC SEO a season ahead of the demand you want. Every client gets the same 90-day promise. If there is no measurable result in 90 days, you get your retainer back.

What HVAC SEO Costs

Published contractor marketing prices we checked in October 2026 ran from $249 a month for a website and SEO bundle to $11,000 or more for a full program. Most full-service retainers sat between about $2,600 and $7,750 a month. The full table is in our contractor marketing agency cost guide.

How We Measure HVAC SEO

We report what an HVAC owner can check against his own call log.

  • Map grid scans for AC repair, furnace repair, replacement and your other main searches, on the same grid every month.
  • Keyword coverage. How many of your top 30 keywords by volume appear on your site, before and after.
  • Indexing and clicks from Search Console, split by searches with and without your company name.
  • Calls from the website and Google profile, matched to jobs in your CRM where you'll let us.
  • AI answers. Whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI name you for the searches we track.

Red Flags When Comparing HVAC SEO Companies

Most HVAC SEO companies sound the same on the first call. These separate them.

  • Case studies you can't check. Ask to see a real map grid scan and Search Console data. If an agency won't show either, that's your answer.
  • A promised ranking or a promised number of leads. Nobody controls Google.
  • One services page for every kind of HVAC job.
  • Seasonal pages that go up in the middle of the season.
  • Review gating, where only happy customers get the link. It breaks Google's policy.
  • The agency owns the domain, the site or the Google profile. All of it should be in your name. Ours always is.

What DG Agency Charges

Retainers start at $5,000 a month for HVAC companies doing $1M or more. That covers SEO, your Google Business Profile, Local Services Ads, citations, reviews and Yelp, because they all feed the same rankings. 90-day minimum, then month to month with 30 days' notice. If there is no measurable result in 90 days, you get your retainer back. You own the profile, the domain, the site and the tracking numbers. A new website is a separate project starting at $5,000, see website design. Full details on the pricing page.

How much does HVAC SEO cost?

+

Published contractor marketing prices we checked in October 2026 ran from $249 a month to $11,000 or more, with most full-service retainers between about $2,600 and $7,750. DG Agency starts at $5,000 a month for HVAC companies doing $1M or more, covering SEO, the Google Business Profile, Local Services Ads, citations, reviews and Yelp.

How long does SEO take for an HVAC company?

+

On our plumbing accounts the map moved within two to three months when the profile was neglected. Competitive website rankings take longer, often six months or more in a big metro. Start a season before the demand you want, because pages need time to get indexed and settle.

Do you have HVAC SEO case studies?

+

Not current ones. We have done HVAC work in the past but don't have a current HVAC client, and we don't publish numbers we can't show you. Our plumbing results are the closest match, because the Google Maps mechanics are the same.

How do I choose between HVAC SEO companies?

+

Ask each one for a real map grid scan and Search Console data from a client account, what they will report monthly, and who owns the website and Google profile. Walk away from anyone who promises a ranking or a number of leads.

Does HVAC SEO need anything special for Google's AI Overviews?

+

Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. ChatGPT and Gemini work separately, so track whether they name you on its own.
